“Nonetheless, it seems we still carry the burden of judgment and racism. “Make America Great Again” really did mean going back to the 1950s. Sad.”
Regarding “Arlington website scrubs bio of Lawrence Joel” (March 15):
What is the point of this revisionist scrubbing of American history? What is wrong with sharing pride in one’s country — no matter their culture, race, or background?
What the Trump administration is doing by scrubbing minorities from sites like Arlington Cemetery, is essentially saying they did not partake in the construction of this beautiful country. I will not stand for this racial erasure, this acid wash of American heroes and history. We will never scrub Trump from history, like we won’t nix Hitler nor Mussolini from history… so we know what “wrong” looks like.
I will not stand for this simply because it does not cost a thing to have those amazing individuals on that website. It only costs us our national unity and divides us even further. Are white Americans the only ones worth celebrating, MAGA? Your silence is deafening, and your racism and supremacy are spewing.
Tired of being called racists? Well, I’m tried of seeing racism. If it were expunged from America as you all say, then why do we still joke about racist uncle(s) during Thanksgiving? If you defend this scrubbing of history, then there is no other way to view you. Again, it costs zilch to display those heroes. Nada. It’s not about eliminating DEI initiatives. The message is clear — to those who don’t support this.
Nonetheless, it seems we still carry the burden of judgment and racism. “Make America Great Again” really did mean going back to the 1950s. Sad.
